Summer Placement

Today's my first day being in the pharmacy department in HUKM. Four of us (Shi Hao, Chia Yin, Annie and I) were separated from each other. Miss Michelle which was the person in-charge of us gave us a list which consists of the respective departments we had to go for each day. 10 days 10 different places.

My schedule goes like this:-

10/8: OPDC (Outpatient Dispensing Counseling)
11/8: DI (Drug Info)
12/8: TPN (Total Parenteral Nutrition)
13/8: CDR (Cytotoxic Drug Reconstitution)
14/8: Store

17/8: IPD (Inpatient Dispensing)
18/8: DDA/Manufacture (Dangerous Drug Area)
19/8: OPD (Outpatient Dispensing)
20/8: Retail
21/8: Clinical (Where we get to go for ward roundings ^^)

I was under a PRP (pre-reg pharmacist)today in the OPDC. OPDC was quite boring today cause they were only very few patients who came in to ask for help on the method of using inhalers, insulin injections and epoietin injections. Nevertheless, on their medication. All i did today was helping the patients to translate the labels because most of them were senior citizens and they do not know how to read the malay labels. Other than that, sitting around, reading leaflets and of course chatting with the PRP(she was the only one with me in that room =p).

Over a thousand patients flowing in and out of the OPD today. Quite a busy day for those who are in OPD. Can you imagine how many medicines that we had to prepare a day for those patients??? Average each patient with a minimum of 5 drugs (some can come up to more than 10). I took nearly half an hour today to just finish off one prescription with like more than 10 drugs. We had to supply them with enough drugs for 2 months. Too lazy to count now but you know i know. It's ALOT.

Gotta sign off now... Continue with Burning Flame 1st =)
